MURCOTT 12-BORE THEOPHILUS MURCOTT 1871 PATENT 'MOUSETRAP' LEVER-COCKING PUSH-FORWARD UNDERLEVER HAMMERLESS NON-EJECTOR, serial no. 4179, circa 1875, 30in. black powder only damascus barrels (dented), the rib engraved 'THEOP'S MURCOTT'S PATENT. NO. 6, HAYMARKET, LONDON.', in a scrolling border with acanthus scroll detailing to the edges, the breech end with further acanthus scroll detailing, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, Murcott patent hammerless action, patent no. 1003 of 15th April 1871, use number 4179, push-forward underlever, manual lever safety with gold-inlaid 'LOCK'D' detail, action flats stamped 'TRADE MARK HAMMERLESS' and 'MURCOTT'S PATENT', profusely engraved with acanthus scrollwork with floral bouquets and feathered bordering, the lockplates signed 'T. MURCOTT'S PATENT' in scroll banners, 14 1/4in. figured stock including engraved steel heel and toe plates, fore-end with cross-pin release catch (missing finial and some losses to edges), weight 7lb. 5oz.
